Selected Works

Lena Liv (Born in 1952, Leningrad, USSR)
Lives and works in Italy and Israel.

Liv works in a range of mediums, including photography, works on paper and sculpture using found objects. She captures a timeless essence in her work, leaving a residue of memories and melancholy. Liv strays far from the obvious, and offers few explanations. She constructs her work in the form of questions rather than answers, devising a search with no end – a search for the enigmatic. A delicate balance between materiality and transience is achieved, drawing the viewer in closer to an inexplicable narrative.

Liv has exhibited solo shows in Germany, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Israel, and the United States, at institutions such as the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, and the Centro Pecci in Prato. She has participated in group exhibitions held at the Villa Croce, Museum of Contemporary Art in Genoa, Italy; the MUAR in Moscow, Russia; the Museum Moderner Kunst, Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna, Australia; and the Kunsthalle Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland. Liv was also included in the Roundabout touring exhibition at the City Gallery Wellington, New Zealand, and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel.
