Liya Jacobi / Waterful Series
Waterful is a limited collection of one-off art installations inspired by the ‘Tomy Waterful’ children’s toy produced in 1976.

Inspired by modernity, Liya Jacobi’s Waterful was created as a way to utilize an object originally engineered as a children’s toy and reimagined for the contemporary viewer.

Jacobi invites you to explore this interactive piece and it’s unexpected functionality.

Taking three years of prototypes, trials, failures and plans in order to complete both visually and mechanically, Waterful was inspired by Liya’s favourite childhood toy.

Liya chose to use the Waterful series as an avenue for storytelling and each piece expresses her playfulness and (slight) obsession with toys.

Each Waterful has a different story and objects which explore a subject such as the creation myth, outer space and knowledge.

The Waterful series encourages visitors to actively engage with each work.

Each Waterful’s production has a unique process according to its theme and the pieces necessary to make its story come to life.
